The Do’s and Don’ts of Wearing Vintage Jewellery

Written by: Cynthia Findlay Antiques

If you own any estate jewellery, chances are good that you might not know how to maintain it properly. Vintage jewellery is meant to be enjoyed, not shut up in a box on some vanity. If you feel more comfortable with rings in a box than on your finger, these do’s and do not do’s should help give you the confidence you need to proudly sport your vintage piece.

Probably the best place to flaunt vintage jewellery is out on the town. If you find yourself on a guest list for a museum gala, upscale party, restaurant with a dress code or black tie event, vintage jewellery will look stunning.

On the flipside, you probably shouldn’t wear vintage jewellery when you’re doing any kind of physical activity. Cleaning or moving objects around the house, even light weight objects, can mess with the integrity of the piece. Brushing pieces against walls or boxes also might ruin any intricate designs the pieces once featured.

Definitely keep a safe space to store your vintage jewellery that is temperature controlled. You won’t have issues ordering custom jewellery from Toronto and bringing it to the Los Angeles heat if you travel, but you should avoid any extreme temperatures either high or low for sustained period of time.
